Lies and Deceit
A lie is purposefully not telling the truth.
Deceit is using trickery to make someone believe something that isn't true.
Often times it could mean fooling someone for a person’s own advantage.
Lies and deceit is
expressed multiple times all throughout chapter six. Of course the pigs are the
ones implementing the lies, starting with Napoleon discussing with the animals
the farm’s need to trade with neighboring farms. Napoleon sugar coats the fact
that it was once one of the earliest resolutions to NOT trade with humans. He
simply declares the trade would not be “for any commercial purpose, but simply
in order to obtain certain materials which were urgently necessary.” Basically Napoleon is fooling everyone that
the trade is specifically for the windmill, while he has plans to trade
strictly for his own selfish needs. Later he states that if needed the hens’
eggs would be used in the trade and that the hens should “welcome this
sacrifice as their own special contribution towards the building of the
windmill.” Napoleon is practically forcing them to provide the eggs and they
should feel accomplished by doing so, since it’s “for the good of the windmill.”
This has lies and deceit written all over it! The pigs are being very successful
at it too, encouraging more of this immoral behavior.
Lies and deceit
happen all the time, from people’s everyday lives to huge political controversies.
People are selfish and because of that we manipulate, lie, cheat, do everything
we can in order to get what we want. People take advantage of those who are
ignorant, they use trickery, and our lives are full of scandal. A couple of
years ago the governor of Illinois, Rod Blagojevich used deceit for his own egotistical
self, unfortunately for him he suffered from being caught. Obama had been elected
president, leaving Blagojevich to fill the vacant seat for a new senator of
Illinois. Blagojevich used lying, and manipulation to attempt to sell the
senate seat. Blago may have hoaxed countless of people to aid him in his
scheme, most likely under false pretenses. So he did this, risked his career,
risked going to jail for money, because he wanted
more, he couldn't just be happy with what he had. Politicians, a prime
example of real life lies and deceit.
